Lord Snowdon’s Aviary, London Zoo

Metwin are proud to have been a part of the refurbishment of the iconic Snowdon Aviary in London Zoo. Lord Snowdon’s Aviary has been a landmark on the London skyline since it was built in 1962. Designed by and named after Lord Snowdon, it was the first walk-through aviary in existence – pushing the architectural boundaries of its time. These doors and windows were made to the original intent of architect Lord Snowdon which incorporated internal arched glass units with bespoke doors

incorporating specification design allowing a high usage.

Crittall Corporate W20 steel section windows and doors were chosen for the project, incorporating arched steel internal design and bespoke doors to house electronic closers for constant thoroughfare. The project was featured in the Daily Mail and Telegraph newspapers.
